Cum Laude Society Induction Ceremony 2017

In a formal ceremony on April 25th, seniors Paris J., Roger L., Sarah N., Divya N., Rose P., and Alejandra W.; along with juniors Jonathan C., Nicholas C., Lindsay I., Philip O., Ryan P., and Chelsea S., became the newest members of this prestigious Cum Laude Society. Modeled after Phi Beta Kappa, the Cum Laude Society honors superior scholastic achievement in secondary school. Each year, Bancroft inducts juniors and seniors who exemplify the three Cum Laude cornerstones of Excellence (Areté), Justice (Diké) and Honor (Timé).

Punctuated by the musical talents of new inductees Paris and Alejandra, the ceremony featured guest speaker Shubh Agrawal, a 2011 Bancroft alumna and Cum Laude member. After waxing nostalgic about the Dining Hall (scene of “many chicken patty sandwiches, learning to crochet with Terry, and passing out carnations”), Shubh shared the lessons she’s learned in the seven years since her own induction, and how her interpretation of excellence, justice, and honor has evolved and expanded. Shubh left her fellow inductees with these words: “Try your best, honor yourself, and commit yourself to making the world a better place for all its inhabitants.”

Congratulations to the twelve new inductees, who join seniors Lydia C., Jacob F., Alessandra V., and Yehan “Sally” Y., who were inducted in 2016 as juniors.
