MS Advisory Program

Upon entering Middle School, every student becomes part of an Advisory — a small group of six to 11 students led by a faculty advisor — that meets throughout the school year. Students are able to build relationships and receive support in a relaxed, yet structured, environment to further their academic, social/emotional, and personal growth. The Advisory Program ensures that every MS student is known as an individual and recognized for their unique strengths.

Advisors facilitate these goals for their advisees in several ways:

  • Meeting regularly with the group and with students individually
  • Creating a safe space for team building and collaboration
  • Promoting opportunities for personal challenge, goal setting, and a growth mindset
  • Advocating for and supporting advisees
  • Facilitating communication between and among students, parents, teachers, and administrators
  • Playing and having fun together
  • Being relaxed and present

Advisory Themes

Each grade has a particular focus for advisory, geared toward supporting the students in their current experience:

  • 6th Grade Theme: Discover Middle School
Help ease the students' transition into their new division
  • 7th Grade Theme: Challenge Yourself
Encourage participation in a variety of team building activities that help develop confidence and self-value
  • 8th Grade Theme: Lead the Way
Build leadership skills as students take on more responsibility and self-determination
