Instructor: Amy Pearson

This field course is designed to explore and study the marine and coastal ecology of

Bermuda. Instructor Amy Pearson, a Bancroft School science teacher who has led the Bermuda trip for many years, will accompany students as they snorkel and study at a different field site each day.

We will learn about what is there and why each site is different, in both its physical surroundings and the life found there. We will visit limestone caves and the Bermuda Aquarium and Natural History Museum. We will hear from different scientists on the Island, and do a service project tied to native plant restoration. Participants should be strong swimmers, in very good physical condition, and eager to explore the world’s northernmost coral reef.

We will stay at the Bermuda Institute for Ocean Sciences (BIOS), in St. George's. BIOS has comfortable dormitories and delicious food, as well as labs, a library, a computer center, and more.
