Mason Hendershott Recognized as Stephen T. White Chair in Teaching Excellence
Posted 05/29/2018 04:01PM

Mason Hendershott, 2018 Stephen White Chair“For his commitment to stewarding young people, it is our pleasure to award the Stephen T. White Chair in Teaching Excellence to Mason Hendershott.”  These words from Head of School Trey Cassidy, spoken at the all-school closing assembly on May 29, 2018, elicited huge enthusiasm and much applause from the audience of students, families, and colleagues of Lower School Science Teacher Mason Hendershott. Also in attendance were Mason's mom and girlfriend, who had been keeping the secret since being notified of his award and invited to the assembly.

Mason is someone who is always on the move and the first to step in and ask “what can I do to help?” He is deeply committed to the Worcester Partnership Program. He has helped turn our campus into a laboratory for learning science. And he has inspired our students to explore the world – on campus, across New England, and this summer in Iceland, where he will accompany students on a global travel experience.

The Stephen White Chair recognizes a faculty member who embodies lifelong learning, teaching, and global citizenship — values shared by former English teacher Steve White, whose Bancroft career spanned 47 years. The current chair, Upper School Dean and Latin Teacher Robin Silverman, is completing her three-year term and Mason Hendershott will hold the designation through the 2020-2021 school year.

We congratulate you, Mason, for your dedication to helping children learn about, appreciate, and experience the natural world around them.
