2018 Alpine Ski Team at the New England Championships on Wachusett Mountain, 2/14/18
After competing in the New England Class C Alpine Ski Championships at Wachusett Mountain on Wednesday, February 14th, Bancroft’s Boys’ and Girls’ Alpine Ski Teams wrapped up their regular season with some great results.
Sophomore Kaya Dorogi finished 1st overall in the Central MA Ski League, compiling enough points over the course of the season to claim the top spot! Dorogi also had a great showing at the New England Championships, finishing in the Top 5 for both Giant Slalom (4th) and Slalom (5th)! This marks the second straight year Dorogi has finished in the Top 5 at New Englands!
Equally exciting for Bancroft’s Ski program is the fact that the Girls’ Ski Team finished 3rd overall in the Central MA Ski League! Team members include Dorogi, sophomore Abbey Cranford, sophomore Clare Shanahan, freshman Danielle Sangermano, and 8th grader Vivian Gal. Together, these skiers earned enough points throughout the season to take possession of 3rd place in the league — a great accomplishment for this team and first-year head coach Will Meyers!
“It was an absolute pleasure to coach the ski team this season,” Coach Meyers said. “A majority of the skiers came into the season with little race experience; just a true passion for the sport. It was fun to watch them as they fine-tuned and developed their skills as true ski racers.” Meyers is also the Assistant Director of Admission for the Lower and Middle Schools at Bancroft.
The Boys’ Alpine Ski Team also showed significant improvement throughout the season, especially at the New England Championships. Sophomore Thomas Hollinger finished 21st in Giant Slalom and 24th in Slalom, taking the top spot for the Bulldogs in a competitive class of skiers. Junior Eli Zamore, sophomore Daniel Freedman, and 7th grader Santiago Pastor all made huge strides this year, which showed in their times at New Englands.
We’re excited to see this team continue to grow as they build on this year’s accomplishments. Congratulations on a great season, Bulldogs!
