Class of 2018 College SweatshirtsCollege Planning

Your family may be new to the college admission process, but we’re not. Every Bancroft graduate goes to college. Every single one. And you will, too.

Your journey toward college admission won’t look like anyone else’s. But you’ll have something in common with thousands of Bancroft grads before you: the support of caring, thoughtful educators, counselors, and advisors who truly know you and know colleges. We will guide you and advocate for you. We are your team.

In the end, your college experience is just a small, albeit important, segment of your journey to become the kind of person, leader, and thinker you want to be. You’re at Bancroft, so you’re already well on your way, discovering your passions in life and learning to embrace confidently and responsibly the moral and ethical challenges of being lifelong learners, teachers of others, and citizens of the global community.

College Preparations Grades 9-12

Grades 9–10

Your freshman and sophomore years are a time for exploration. Take challenging classes in which you can do well. Participate widely in clubs, sports, and community service. Build on your talents, strengths, and passions. Think about leadership opportunities. You and your family will meet individually with the Upper School Head and your Advisor to choose courses and plan for Grades 10-12.

Grade 11

Junior year is when things start humming. College Counseling sessions continue with you and your family, as you develop a balanced college list, explore various college applications, and develop a testing strategy. We hold parent sessions on College Applications, Standardized Testing, and Financial Aid. You’ll start to write personal essays in your classes. The College Counselor talks to your teachers to get a feel for your individual strengths. In April, we host a Case Study Workshop, and we take your entire class to the independent school College Fair in Boston, where you’ll have a chance to talk with admissions officers from 100+ colleges and universities.

Grade 12

Senior year includes a College Night Reception and Financial Aid Night for parents. College counseling meetings and advisories continue. Recruiters from over 100 colleges visit campus to tell you all about their schools (they WANT Bancroft students)! We’ll work with you to finalize essays, complete applications, and request teacher recommendations. We’ll even help you understand scholarships and financial aid awards.

Bancroft students do not navigate these waters alone. We’re with you every step of the way.
