Sponsored by the Hope Graham Program at Bancroft School and taught by expert teachers, the Orton-Gillingham Reading and Writing Tutorial is a five-week summer tutorial designed to reinforce reading, writing, and spelling skills. The program is appropriate for learners who struggle with these subjects, including those who have been diagnosed with dyslexia or other language-based learning differences.
Orton-Gillingham (OG) is a language-based, multi-sensory, structured, and sequential method of instruction that assists struggling students by activating visual, auditory, tactile, and kinesthetic senses to enhance learning and memory.
In a small-group setting, students will divide their morning between an OG reading class and a developmental writing class, learning fundamentals such as sentence and paragraph structure, grammar, and punctuation. The curriculum is individualized to meet the needs of the students enrolled, and groups will be structured to accommodate differentiated instruction.
Assessments will be completed to monitor progress and parents will receive a final written report.
