Dear Bancroft Community,
Amid the emergence of scenic fall foliage on campus, students and teachers are hitting their stride in the classroom. The mild weather has created great outdoor learning opportunities as well and it has been nice to see students and faculty take advantage of our green space to engage in active learning.
I am writing today to share some important updates on our recent Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion work, provide additional information on our approach to vaccination, and share details of some upcoming events.
DEIJ Climate Assessment Last week, Dr. Keith Hinderlie spent time on campus hearing from our students, parents, faculty, and staff to compile thoughts for a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Climate Assessment. This work is an important step in the Equity in Action pillar of our strategic plan, BluePrint125. I want to thank Keith for his dedication to listening to our community members throughout the week. Keith shared some thoughts about his time at Bancroft:
"I had a wonderful week conducting a DEIJ Climate Assessment for Bancroft School. The community was open and generous sharing about the strengths/areas of growth for their school. Our mixed method approach to assessment involves a combination of qualitative interviews and a sophisticated online survey so that the entire community has the opportunity to be involved."
I am looking forward to sharing more information about the Climate Survey and Climate Assessment when we receive the full report.
Vaccination I continue to be encouraged by the number of community members who have received the COVID-19 vaccine. We are anticipating that children ages 5-12 will be able to receive the vaccine in the near future. When that day comes we can begin to break down some of the divisional barriers that are currently in place and provide important opportunities for collaboration and school spirit.
Many of our partner organizations that sponsor student activities — athletics and robotics, to name a few — are beginning to require vaccination for full participation. We want to assure that all of our students have access to these important activities, and the best way to do this is through vaccination. I'll be sure to share any additional requirement updates as they develop.
If you have any questions about the vaccination process, please contact School Nurse Liza Marzilli, BSN, RN. To find an appointment for a COVID-19 vaccine, visit this website.
Flu season is upon us. To protect our community, I encourage all of our families to get the flu vaccine. We held a flu vaccination clinic on campus yesterday for our faculty and staff members — these are important steps to help protect our community health and keep the flu off campus.
Conferences All School Conferences are scheduled for Friday, November 5 and no classes will be held that day. Online sign-up will open on Tuesday, October 19th at 6:00 p.m. and parents/guardians will have the option to select in-person or Zoom as their preference for meeting. Please be on the lookout for additional information on how to sign up for your conferences, which will be sent out this coming Monday.
LCA Homecoming Tomorrow, our Bulldogs travel to Lexington Christian Academy for their Homecoming. We were grateful to have LCA join us on Shore Drive a few weeks ago, and are excited to continue this tradition of competition on their campus. I encourage our students, parents, faculty, and staff to come out and cheer on our student-athletes on what looks to be a beautiful fall day. You can find details and more information here. Go Bulldogs!
Have a great weekend!
