MS Fall Sports Awards 2015The 2015 fall sports season was huge for our Middle School teams. Field hockey went undefeated for the second year in a row. Volleyball completed the first winning season in seven years. The girls’ soccer team doubled in size from last year. The boys’ soccer teams also had the largest number of players in many years. Overall, more than 90% of MS students played a team sport this fall, and that’s the way we like it. As Mr. O’Driscoll said at today’s assembly, “No one is born knowing how to swing a field hockey stick or hit a volleyball over a net, so why not give it a try when you’re 11?”

The season was marked by so many individual and team triumphs. Our MS coaches spoke of the pride they felt seeing their young charges—many of them playing their sport for the very first time—grow as athletes and as people. They used words like camaraderie, laughter, encouragement, attitude, character. Coach Ryan (volleyball) called it “a privilege” to see the bonding, encouragement, and support among her players. Coach Whitney (girls’ soccer) recalled her proudest moment, when a referee made a point to praise the team’s exemplary sportsmanship. Coach Boyd (boys’ soccer) spoke about the perfect coaching moment when you see your players doing everything on the field that you’ve been teaching and yelling about all season.

It was a stellar season in so many ways, and all of our MS student-athletes are to be commended. Listed below are the recipients of the Leadership Awards, M.I.P. Awards, and Coaches Awards for the season.
