Visual Arts

Every Artist Was Once An Amateur

Visual Arts at Bancroft focuses on the whole student. We foster a hands-on experience with an appreciation for aesthetics, autonomy, and creativity. Art students bring their own voices and passions into the studio as they master skills, and integrate them into exceptional visual displays - many of which you can find all over campus or in our very own art gallery.

Lower School

The Lower School Visual Arts Program makes art-making fun and self-expressive while helping to develop fine motor skills, creative thinking, and self-confidence. We also find art all around us with field trips to the Worcester Art Museum and Boston's Museum of Fine Arts among others. Student work is highlighted each year at the Spring Lower School Art Show.

Middle School

The Middle School Visual Arts program allows students to make choices and experiment with two and three dimensional art work. Classes have included everything from watercolor to bookmaking. Students also dive into history, exploring the origins of Western and Non-Western art.

Upper School

The Upper School program helps our students develop a deep understanding and appreciation of art while reaching their full creative potential. Available courses include studio art, sculpture, photography, digital media, and Art History. Student work as well as installations from artists in-residence are showcased throughout the year in the Bancroft Art Gallery.
