Students don't have to be on stage to shine. All school productions are completely student run. From the sound to the lighting. There is something for everyone.
At Bancroft, being dramatic is encouraged. The Lower, Middle, and Upper schools provide opportunities for everyone to be comfortable both in the spotlight and behind the scenes. We believe that performing arts builds creativity, team building, and self expression. Whether you want to be a broadway star, producer, or lighting expert, we'll help you find your place on our stage.
Every year, the Upper School produces not one but two mainstage performances including a drama and a musical. The 5th and 8th grades also star in and put on their own plays.
Middle School Drama is all about learning the nuances of theater - from 6th graders who read and perform several short plays and sections of full-length dramas, to 8th graders that put on a fully staged production - students learn to project their voice, rehearse lines and scenes, and accomplish polished productions - together.
In the Upper School, we find your passion and turn it into your craft. Classes in technical theater, Introduction to Acting, and Advanced Acting are offered as well as showcases like the Upper School Drama in the Fall and Musical in the Spring. The cast and crew are guided by our dedicated faculty, but when the curtain goes up, the shows are entirely student run.
