International Student Program
Bancroft launched its International Program in 2012, enrolling a small number of students from China in our Upper School. Today, we enroll up to 20 international students as fully matriculated members of our community for all four of their Upper School years. These students live with local host families and participate in all aspects of life at Bancroft, from sports and stage productions to math competitions, music, student government, and robotics.
Hailing from cities throughout China, our international students are chosen from a large pool of applicants for their display of academic excellence and their desire to become fully engaged members of the Bancroft community. They are here to immerse themselves in American culture as they prepare to attend American colleges and universities.
In order to ease the transition for our new students each year, we communicate with them throughout the summer to ensure that they are set up for success. Once they arrive, we provide an orientation that includes a traditional hot pot meal in Worcester and two days of on-campus sessions in science, history, and English in order for them to become familiar with the intimate, rigorous, and collaborative nature of our classes. While English proficiency is a prerequisite for acceptance in the International Program, we offer English Language Review classes for those who need help strengthening their writing and reading comprehension skills.
Bancroft’s international students bring a global perspective to the School that expands the cultural horizons for our entire community. They flourish in our welcoming community while sharing their unique talents, culture, and voice, enhancing all aspects of the learning environment.
