Worcester Partnership

Elm Park Community School and Bancroft School
A special journey ...

Program

In the summer of 2003, the Worcester Partnership began a journey of discovery. Students and teachers from Elm Park Community School and Bancroft School joined together on the Bancroft campus for the month of July. The four-week summer experience combined the challenge and excitement of academics in the morning with the spirit and gross motor activities of camp in the afternoon. The journey continues throughout the school year, on Saturday mornings and after school. A highlight occurred during winter vacation when the group was bussed to Assumption College to watch a basketball game and enjoy pizza with the players afterwards. These children set foot on a college campus: there is no stopping them now!

Bancroft’s Mission

… is to prepare young people to participate confidently and responsibly in an increasingly complex society.

Elm Park’s Mission

... is to provide a safe caring environment in which to meet the ever changing needs of children and their families...

Collaboration

The two mission statements have a great deal in common. With teachers from both faciliities working together, we continue to focus our efforts on instilling and nurturing the spark for learning and working in harmony.

HELPING TO EDUCATE A GENERATION OF CHILDREN

The MISSION of the Worcester Partnership is to provide designated students from Elm Park Community School the opportunity for continued and supportive learning in order to ease the transition from one grade to the next. In addition, it is our desire to open doors to fresh challenges and new ways of thinking by introducing these students to materials (an author a week with a book per day) and environments to which they might not ordinarily be exposed. The foundation of the program is a consistent, reliable community of students and teachers, where each individual is a contributing member and each knows he or she is vital to the group as a whole. It is during these early years, when children are learning to be learners and learning to be members of a larger community, that we provide an opportunity to set the stage for future growth and development. The journey begins at the kindergarten level and will continue through grade six.

Through the Worcester Partnership, we are committed to creating an environment in which the children feel safe, empowered, and academically challenged. We are committed to creating an environment in which taking academic risks is the norm and an environment based on tolerance and respect. Success will be measured by individual growth and the positive direction of the group. The ability to problem solve, enjoy a laugh, question, explore, and try, is the cornerstone of the Worcester Partnership.
