Academic Support Services
While Bancroft School provides a rigorous academic experience, we recognize that each student has a unique learning profile.
Assisted by specialized training in All Kinds of Minds, a neuroscientific approach to learning, we identify each student’s academic strengths and weaknesses to help students design strategies for academic success.
Each division at Bancroft—Lower, Middle, and Upper School—offers a coordinated and proactive learning support program for all of its students.
The Director of Academic Support works closely with each Division Head to design and offer academic support that is developmentally appropriate for each division.
Academic Support Coordinators
Academic Support Coordinators (ASCs) work with students one-on-one or in small groups to maximize the academic and social potential of each student. Divisions cover a range of support needs including: Reading comprehension; Active reading; Math; Homework coaching; Test-taking instruction; Study and memory skills; Time management; Note taking; and other organizational strategies.
Team-Based Assessments
Students receiving academic support services are carefully observed by a team including the Director of AS, ASC, faculty, and administrators to provide direction and assessment. The team is in regular communication with the student’s classroom teachers and parents to detail progress and evaluation throughout the support experience.
Individual Learning Strategies
Each Bancroft division has seen remarkable improvements with learning strategies when students, ASCs, teachers, administrators, and parents come together to design and implement an action plan that best meets the needs of each individual learner. Through regular communication, documentation, and direct support, students work to understand their best learning strengths.
