Student Organizations

One of the best ways for Upper School students to develop leadership skills is through participation in a student organization.

Amnesty International: Students are given an opportunity to become involved in human rights activities.
Bancroft Beacon: This is the student newspaper which chronicles campus events and provides a forum for student interests.
Bancroft Hosts: Student volunteers pair up with prospective students and guide them through a day of classes.
Blue Belles: Our female a cappella club.
Blue Moon: The editorial board of this, the yearbook, coordinates the design and execution of the book by raising money, obtaining sponsors, collecting photographs and generally organizing the year's events for recording in the yearbook
Buddy Program: All freshmen, exchange students, and students new to the Upper School are matched with a buddy to help them become acquainted and integrated into the Upper School community.
Canteen: A student manager and staff sell refreshments at morning and noon breaks to Upper School students. Proceeds are used for charitable purposes.
Captain’s Table: Team captains meet once a month to discuss athletics, spirit events and competitions.
C.A.R.E. (Children's Arts and Recreational Experience): This is a fall and spring arts and recreational program for children ages 6 - 11 with moderate special needs. The program is organized and staffed by Upper School students.
Debate Club: This club prepares students in the art of debate for on and off-campus competitions. Bancroft School is a member of DANEIS (the Debate Association of New England Independent Schools).
Disciplinary Committee: Five elected students and two faculty receive concerns regarding disciplinary matters from the administration and student body.
Estrafalario: Students gather weekly to speak Spanish with faculty and peers.
Fly Fishing: Students learn the skills necessary to engage in this fresh water sport.
Gourmet Club: This club learns the art of cooking by preparing a variety of foods and recipes.
G.S.A.: Students advocate for tolerance and acceptance at Bancroft and the world beyond. They regularly take part in discussions and events pertaining to a variety of issues.
Horizon Program: A fall and spring theater program for children ages 11-16 with moderate special needs. The program is organized and staffed by Upper School students.
Intarsia: Students produce this literary magazine which presents original prose, poetry and art work.
La table de français: Students gather weekly at lunch to speak French with faculty and foreign exchange students.
Math Team: Math students participate in competitions throughout the region.
Outing/Science Club: Students enjoy outings such as mountain climbing, hiking, skiing and camping. Members may attend lectures and films and participate in field trips to area business and scientific facilities.
Ping Pong Club: Ping pong is played for fun and for competition.
Powder & Wig: The drama club's major endeavor of the year is producing the spring musical. Students also plan the fall drama production, theater trips to Boston and New York, and visits to community repertory theaters.
Prom: Co-chairs raise money, plan the location, theme, food, and decor for a formal dance for juniors and seniors which occurs in April every year.
Social Concerns: Committee members organize volunteer efforts to assist community social service agencies.
Speech Team: Students participate in interscholastic speech competitions.
Student Activities Board: The Board meets weekly to coordinate social events, competitions and all club activities.
Student Council: Student Council meets weekly to oversee student government and communicate student concerns and suggestions to the school administration.
Tour Guides: This group of students escorts parents of prospective students and other visitors around the campus.
Uncommon Time: Bancroft's coed a capella group. Students sing without accompaniment. All are invited to audition.
Yale Model Congress: Students take part in a simulated creation of the United States Congress at Yale University.
