Musical Theater Program

5-Week Program from June 30 – August 1, 2014

Description

Come join us and be a star while learning about professional theater! Participants will act, dance, sing, make costumes, learn about set design and let their creativity shine! The program culminates with a daytime and evening performance, and everyone has a role in each show. Students will receive a DVD copy of the production and a CD of professional head shots taken over the course of the program. Previous musical performances have included, “Little Mary Sunshine,” “Peter Pan,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Once on This Island,” “Aladdin,” and “Cinderella.”

Participants should bring a snack, bag lunch and water bottle each day. There will be special themed days to go along with acting games and activities while preparing for the show.

Hours

Monday – Friday, 9:00am to 3:30pm (Closed July 4)

Fee

$900 if you register by May 1st / $950 after May 1st
Minimum of 15 participants required for program

Extended Day Options: Early morning care and afternoon care are available daily for an additional fee.

Instructor

Derek Sylvester returns after working on the Bancroft Summer Theatre Camp for the last four years. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Psychology, with minors in Theatre and Music. He has studied theatre at Carnegie Mellon University, Worcester Children’s Theatre, dance with Joan Sherry Dance Centre, and voice with Angeliki Theoharis. derek has been performing, directing, designing, and choreographing for 26 years. In 2007 he was awarded the Kennedy Center’s prestigious Irene Ryan award for best choreography for his work on Worcester State College’s production of Once Upon a Mattress. Derek is a seven year member of the Worcester State University Chorale. He has worked with community theatres, public and private school, colleges and community centers across the state. Derek also holds his Massachusetts State Teacher’s License for Elementary Education and Theatre. He will be joined by experienced staff members, counselors and musicians who all have a love of the theatre.
