course catalogue for 2010-2011

    Notes     Graduation Requirements

On these web pages you will find the courses offered in Bancroft’s Upper School.  Notice that you have an opportunity to study a wide variety of courses that will stimulate your interests in learning, build important skills, and help you prepare for success in our nation’s colleges and universities.

For a student in the Upper School:

  • The minimum load of classes each school year is the equivalent of five full-credit courses plus Physical Education.
  • Approval from the Head of Upper School is necessary for a program of six full-credit academic courses.

As you choose your classes, be cognizant of the prerequisites listed to the right of each course description.  Plan ahead.  Don’t just think about this coming year, but about all four years in the Upper School when choosing classes for next year.  Discuss options with your teachers, parents, and advisor.  Follow the recommendations of your current teachers in each discipline.  They recommend the classes in which you will have the best opportunity for success.

The department chairmen and I are here to answer any questions about our course offerings.  Please do not hesitate to call on any one of us.

Roy Gillette
Head of Upper School

NOTE: The School reserves the right to cancel any course that is not subscribed with at least six students or cannot be appropriately staffed.  Not all courses listed in this booklet happen each year.  Decisions about running a course are made by the end of June prior to the start of the school year.  In the case of a course cancellation, students are notified as soon as possible and given alternative choices. Some elective courses are offered on an alternating year basis.
