April 2017 Newsletter

Dear Bancroft Friends:

Providing an exceptional education demands that we stay out in front of the educational landscape. Teaching and learning today look very different from what they did 10 years ago — and will look even more different a decade from now. Bancroft will never stop seeking ways to optimize our learning environments, building in the flexibility, innovation, and support our students need to become their best selves.

We have hired Centerbrook Architects and Planners of Essex, CT, to help us create the next Master Plan to guide our thinking about further facility investments over the next ten years. With our most immediate campus needs now met (field house, music room, lighting, and ventilation), Bancroft is poised to develop our Master Plan. The Master Planning efforts will complement the extensive self-study we're conducting for the School's 10-year NEASC re-accreditation.

Centerbrook has designed learning and social environments for more than 40 independent schools, each tailored to the institution's unique student needs and community values. They will work with Bancroft over the next couple of months to complete an in-depth evaluation of our existing campus layout and make recommendations to optimize our learning spaces. These investigations and subsequent recommendations will inform our next strategic plan

We are very grateful to all of you who completed the recent parent survey. Your unique Bancroft experiences and perspective will provide valuable information for the architects' work, as well as for our re-accreditation.

Thank you for your partnership in the important work of helping Bancroft become more effective, serve more needs, and live our ideals more fully.

Best,

SPRING BREAK GLOBAL TRAVEL

Over spring break, three student groups traveled abroad to Spain, England, and France. Exposure to diversity at home and abroad builds empathy and understanding. Global travel allows students to immerse themselves in different cultures, practice language skills, visit sites of historical importance, and strengthen connections with people other parts of the world. US MUSICAL, ONCE UPON A MATTRESS

The Upper School spring musical is a beloved ritual at Bancroft. It all begins in January with auditions, followed by a huge collaborative effort involving stage setting, lighting, and daily rehearsals. This year's musical was the comedic "Once Upon a Mattress" (music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer). The ensemble's four public performances in March, with our student pit band accompanying, thrilled the audience. Enjoy the video!
