Robin Silverman, 2015 Steve White Faculty ChairDear Bancroft Friends:

I trust that you are enjoying these early days of summer and finding the break from the regular school routine to be a welcome change. Here on campus, I find myself enjoying a less hectic schedule, but missing the buzz of students and faculty. Fortunately, our summer camp and Worcester Partnership programs will soon get started, so the quiet won't last long.

It has been an amazing year, culminating in a whirlwind of art shows, recitals, award ceremonies, and graduations. Besides being valuable transition ceremonies, these end-of-year events provide opportunities for students to demonstrate — to themselves and to us — the mastery they have achieved this year. We have talked often about the importance of connecting our students with the world and helping identify authentic audiences for their work. By sharing their newly acquired expertise, they complete the circle from learner to teacher.

I would like, also, to acknowledge this community’s philanthropy, which has put the 2014-15 Bancroft Fund within $27,000 of its goal for the year. With our June 30 deadline looming, we are extremely optimistic about hitting our $400,000 target for the year, and that is a testament to the strength of people’s passion for the School. Annual gifts are a mainstay of every independent school’s operating budget. A whopping 82% of our faculty and staff have made gifts, and more than half of our current parents. If you have not yet made your gift for the year, please consider doing so before the end of the month.

Finally, a personal thank you. Last summer my family and I made the move from Michigan to Massachusetts, excited to begin the Bancroft chapter of our lives. The warm and welcoming spirit of this wonderful community quickly made us feel right at home. As we close out our first school year together, we thank each of you — Bancroft parents, students, alumni, faculty, staff — for the gift of your friendship, and for the privilege of taking this journey with you.

All the best for a summer filled with adventure,

Trey Cassidy
Head of School
